MUNICIPALITY OF STYRA, GREECE

Jul 5, 2011

On the January 2nd, 2011, a TEMAK brackish water desalination plant was commissioned, with a capacity of 430 m3/day, in the area of Almiropotamos on behalf of Styra Water Supply and Sewerage Company. The capacity can reach 505 m3/day under certain conditions, if there is a need to be done so.

The system is comprised of one 12m long thermally insulated container with a ventilation / air-condition system. Embodied within this container is the reverse osmosis system, the pre-treatment (turbidity filters, cartridge filters, the post treatment, rehardening filter and the necessary chemical dosing systems. Also, in the area of installation, a 20m3 raw water tank has been installed, as well as a 10m3 balance tank.

The desalination system is based on the reverse osmosis technology with semi permeable membranes, which produce excellent water quality, rejecting concentrated salts in water (brine). The desalinated water is enriched with calcium and magnesium hence producing water of excellent quality based on the E.E. regulations and the greek law related to water.

The automation system (PLC with HMI) of the plant controls all the parameters and regulates accordingly the functions of the plant. The high pressure pump of the system is equipped with an inverter (VFD) which automatically regulates the speed of the motor adjusting the system to the changes of the salinity of the incoming water throughout the whole year. This provides flexibility in covering the demands of the water, reduces the energy consumption and lowers the cost to the final client. The result, in all cases, is the production of excellent quality of water, both from the chemical and microbial point of view.

In parallel to the new unit, a very important infrastuctural project has been completed in the wider area of Almiropotamos, with the construction of underground network for the raw water, final produced water and brine reject, with an overall length of 4km. The pumping station of the raw water is found 2km from the location of the system, and the communication with the plant is established via a GSM mobile network. Every time that the raw water tank of 20m3 empties or is full, the relevant sms messages are sent from the unit, which the feed water pumping station receives as orders for start / stop.

In addition, every time the plant goes out of duty, due to malfunction- drop in the voltage from the DEH network etc, an sms message indicating the problem or a phone call is made to the mobile of the authorized user.

In conclusion, in DEYA stiraion, an inovative TEMAK desalination plant has been commissioned with in-built cutting edge technology and excellent performance.

TEMAK with 35 years of powerful presence, a steady work-force of 70 people and self-owned facilities of 7.500m2 in Athens and Thesaloniki, remains steadily the largest Greek company, in the field of water treatment (Total water system, chemicals, fluid control equipment). Its lines of production consist of high quality manufactured products, for a wide range of needs that covers the local and international markets, from the simplest home systems, up to the highly specialized systems for industrial use.

The highly specialized scientific and technical workforce of TEMAK is always ready to choose the flexible and reliable solutions, covering all the needs, or to design from the start a new solution, totally customized to the client’s specifications using cutting edge water treatment technologies.
